Cultivating self trust with fast and free intuitive blooms
Jul 22, 2024I ditched the paints this week and pulled out some rarely used watercolour pens collecting dust…
I tried not to think much about what I was going to create or, more importantly, how…
I decided on some peony-inspired blooms, a studio favourite at the moment, and got to work first, creating a quick, messy outline of the flower shapes and then mark-making to fill in the details of each flower.
I knew intuitively, probably from past experience, that I needed at least three pinks and three greens to create some interest and variation in the tone and texture of these pretty flowers.
It was a bit of trial and error to find the dark, medium, and lightest shades of pink. The darkest shade was really dark and highly pigmented, so I had to play around a little with the medium shade.
Once I’d figured out the colours I worked fast and messy almost like a child scribbling rather than fine detailed intentional movements.
I really liked the liberating feeling of trusting the process and scribbling these flowers to life with little thought and carefree abandon.
An exercise in self-trust and subconscious knowledge as well as a deeper more intuitive freedom found in the fast and fluid choices that came to life during the process.
