Poetry Minisode - "Creative Wind Chime" | An Invitation to Honour Your Creativity in Busy Seasons

poetry minisode Jan 26, 2026

There are seasons when life feels busy, full, and a little noisy. Not necessarily dramatic or overwhelming, just layered with responsibility, care, decision making, holding, managing, and showing up. Days where you move from one thing to the next, often with very little space to breathe, let alone create.

In these seasons, it can be easy to feel as though your creativity has slipped away. You might find yourself remembering a time when making art felt effortless, playful, and guilt free — when you could drift into doodles, daydreams, and paint stained hands without a clock ticking in the background.

But this is not a story about losing creativity. It is a story about how creativity changes shape as our lives evolve. My poem Creative Wind Chime speaks to that quiet, subtle shift — from big, expressive creativity to something softer, smaller, and woven into the everyday.

Creative Wind Chime

Sometimes when life is busy
It seems hard to find a way,
back to the creative freedom,
you once lived on another day.

Time squandered guilt-free
on doodles and daydreams,
Hard work marked by pretty pictures
and paint stained hands.

Please know these idle wanderings
are not the only way,
to breathe more creative life,
into the everyday

Listen carefully to the murmur
of smaller ways to start.
Gentle new beginnings,
that match this season on your path

It may be a quieter offering,
That fills your heart for now.
A soulful, creative wind chime,
eager to whisper to you endlessly,
through the dreary noise in your life.

The Meaning Behind the Poem

At its heart, Creative Wind Chime is an invitation to rethink what creativity looks like in demanding seasons.

The poem begins by acknowledging the very real sense of loss that can arise when life becomes busier and creativity no longer feels as free or spacious as it once did. Many of us long for that earlier version of ourselves — the one who could spend hours lost in art, doodles, or daydreams without guilt or interruption.

But rather than framing this as something that has disappeared, the poem gently suggests that creativity has simply changed shape.

Those “idle wanderings” — the small, playful, seemingly unproductive moments — are still meaningful. They are not the only way creativity can live, but they remind us that creative breath can enter our lives in many forms.

As the poem unfolds, it shifts toward listening rather than striving. Creativity becomes quieter, subtler, more like a gentle murmur than a bold declaration. Instead of grand artistic gestures, it invites us to notice the smaller beginnings that match the rhythm of our current season.

The image of the creative wind chime is central here. A wind chime does not demand attention. It simply exists, softly resonating in the background of everyday life. In the same way, creativity can still be present — quietly moving through us — even when life feels noisy or constrained.

This poem is ultimately about presence, patience, and permission. It reminds us that creativity does not have to look the same in every season to remain alive and meaningful.

Reflection Question

Where, in the small and ordinary moments of your week, might your own “creative wind chime” be quietly trying to sound?
